Small Bikini-Line Incisions
| MILA (minimally invasive lipoabdominoplasty) combines abdominal liposuction and laparoscopic tightening of the abdominal muscles in a single operation, through three to four small bikini-line incisions. Dr. Mohamed H. Zidan explains the steps: a plastic surgeon first performs VASER liposuction, then the abdominal wall team tightens the muscles laparoscopically through the same incisions, the largest about 1.5 cm. The advantages he lists are less pain, a faster recovery and hospital discharge, and a lower rate of wound infection.

I'm Mohamed Zidan, and today I'll talk to you about the newest cosmetic, preventive and therapeutic operation: MILA, or minimally invasive lipoabdominoplasty. It combines liposuction and abdominal tightening through very small incisions in the lower abdomen, which we call bikini incisions. These are cosmetic incisions, the largest of which is 1.5 cm, and there are three to four of them. What do we do? Our colleagues from plastic or cosmetic surgery start with abdominal liposuction using the VASER device, and then it's our turn to tighten the abdomen laparoscopically through the small incisions in the lower abdomen. The advantages of MILA are less pain after the operation, a faster recovery and hospital discharge, and a lower rate of wound infection.
