علامات الفتق المختنق: إمتى تروح الطوارئ فورًا؟‏ | Strangulated Hernia Warning Signs: When to Seek Emergency Care‎

حالة طارئة‏ | A Surgical Emergency‎

وبيوضح إن الجراح بيفك الاختناق ويطمّن على الأمعاء ويصلّح الفتق، وإن مش كل فتق بيتحول لاختناق.‏ | A strangulated hernia is an emergency that happens when part of the bowel becomes trapped inside a hernia and its blood and oxygen supply is cut off. Dr. Mohamed H. Zidan explains the warning signs: a hernia that used to go back in suddenly becomes painful, swollen and won't go back, especially with vomiting or severe pain. He warns against waiting for the pain to settle, trying to push the hernia back yourself or postponing assessment, because delay increases the risk of bowel damage. The surgeon relieves the strangulation, checks the bowel and repairs the hernia. Not every hernia becomes strangulated, but these signs need urgent care.‎

Imagine your breathing getting tight, the pain increasing, and at the same time part of the bowel inside your body starting to strangle. The bulge that used to go back in suddenly becomes painful, swollen and won't go back anymore. Here we are not talking about an ordinary hernia; we are facing a strangulated hernia. A strangulated hernia happens when part of the bowel comes out of its normal place and becomes trapped inside the hernia, and the pressure on it starts to prevent enough blood and oxygen from reaching that part of the bowel. As the strangulation continues, the tissue starts to be damaged, and part of the bowel can die, with serious complications. That's why a strangulated hernia is an emergency. This is not the time to wait for the pain to settle, try to push the hernia back yourself or postpone the examination until tomorrow. Urgent medical assessment is essential, because the longer treatment is delayed, the greater the chance of damage to the bowel. After assessing the case, the surgeon decides on the right intervention depending on the patient's condition and the state of the bowel. The main goal is to relieve the strangulation, make sure the bowel is healthy and repair the hernia so the problem doesn't happen again. The message here is not that every hernia will become strangulated; the message is that if you notice your hernia suddenly becoming painful, swollen and not going back in, especially with vomiting or severe pain, don't wait, because acting quickly can make a big difference.
